I want to know what I can do to stop receiving spam messages. I keep getting unsolicited spam messages that direct me to look at, or invest in, a company’s stock?
Receiving these types of messages can be annoying; however, the spamming activity itself is not illegal in British Columbia. We suggest that you consider blocking the domain names of the spam senders as well as contacting your Internet service provider for further assistance. In addition, do not respond to these messages, as your response will trigger the receipt of even more spam.
As part of our SpamWatch program, the BCSC reviews spam messages when the subject company is based in British Columbia or when there is another connection to British Columbia. We will look at the content of these spam messages to ensure they meet our disclosure standards. When appropriate, we also refer spam-related complaints to other regulatory jurisdictions.
