The BCSC is the provincial agency responsible for regulating fair capital markets. We supervise other regulatory organizations that set and enforce rules of conduct for many market participants, including investment firms and mutual fund dealers. Because of our system of regulation and law, these regulators are responsible for investigating investor complaints against their members.

Review the complaints about advisers and complaints about companies sections to determine whether to resolve your complaint through other avenues instead of, or before, bringing your complaint to the BCSC. You can contact the BCSC at any time for information.

If you have determined that filing a complaint with the BCSC is your next step, please use the BCSC complaint form to report a person or company that you believe has violated British Columbia securities law.

If you decide to file a complaint with the BCSC or take action in the courts, you should be aware that limitation periods might prevent any action from being taken after a certain amount of time has elapsed. For securities transactions, you have between 180 days and 6 years to take action, depending on the nature of the event. You can learn more about limitation periods for remedies under the Securities Act in sections 140 new window and 159 new window. For other remedies, different limitation periods may apply.
