In a stride towards fostering investment empowerment, BCSC InvestRight today unveiled a resource designed for women – a comprehensive guide to investing, appropriately dubbed Women and Investing.
This online guide provides unbiased, research-backed information that aims to not only bridge the gender investment gap but also instill confidence in women when it comes to making informed investment decisions.
Building Confidence by Building Knowledge
The Women and Investing resource will empower women through knowledge, recognizing that a lack of information can lead to hesitation in the world of investing.
Although confidence is rising among women, they still feel less confident than men when it comes to making investment decisions (59% of women say they’re confident, whereas 78% of men say the same). Even with this rise in confidence, women feel more anxiety about losing money on investments (51% say they’re anxious, compared to 44% of men) and they are less optimistic than men that they’ll be able to achieve their investment targets (only 39% say they’re optimistic, whereas 51% of men say the same). But did you know this hesitation and instinct to pause can be a good thing?
Take, for example, that men are more likely to be speculative investors – a behaviour that’s correlated with higher risk. Among women, we see consistently less speculative-type investing behaviour.
While women would benefit from greater confidence when it comes to investing, they don’t need to be overconfident because women already have good instincts when it comes to making smart investment decisions.
Thus, the Women and Investing guide encourages women to build on their investing confidence.
The guide focuses on educating women about the fundamental principles of investing and providing practical insights to help make informed investment decisions. The resource employs a user-friendly approach that breaks down investment concepts, catering to both novice and experienced investors.
Women and Investing covers the following:
- Investing and saving
- Understanding investment goals
- Retirement
- Diversification
- Working with a registered investment advisor
- Using a robo-advisor or doing it on your own through self-directed investing
