World Investor Week (WIW) 2025, taking place from October 6-12, is a global campaign led by the International Organization of Securities Commissions (IOSCO) that the BCSC is proud to support. Its mission is to promote investor education and protection, spotlighting the efforts of securities regulators across six continents. Through workshops, contests, and collaborative events, WIW encourages informed and resilient investing practices.
Key Themes for 2025
This year’s campaign focuses on the evolving landscape of finance, with themes designed to help investors navigate new technologies and risks. In addition to this year’s WIW initiatives, the BCSC is here to educate and inform investors in BC year-round on various topics:
- Technology and Digital Finance: Encourages investors to use digital tools wisely, understand the risks of gamified platforms and copy trading, and critically evaluate financial influencers and online advice.
- Artificial Intelligence (AI): Highlights both the potential and pitfalls of AI in finance, from robo-advisors to algorithmic trading. Investors are urged to remain vigilant about data privacy, model bias, and overreliance on automated recommendations. Visit avoidAIscams.ca.
- Fraud and Scam Prevention: Educates on recognizing red flags like “guaranteed returns” and pressure tactics and stresses the importance of verifying professionals and platforms before investing. Learn the five investment fraud warning signs.
- Crypto Assets: Promotes awareness of the risks and regulatory status of crypto platforms and warns against deceptive marketing and scams involving digital currencies. Visit cryptoscams.ca.
