It’s been a busy year for BCSC InvestRight! We hope you’ve enjoyed our content in 2016 and learned more about a range of investing topics.
A New Website for InvestRight
One of our biggest stories of the year was the relaunch of InvestRight.org. Aside from the updated look and feel, the new site has plenty of new information and interactive features for investors.
Some of the resources you can use on InvestRight.org include:
- A range of tools, articles, and quizzes to help you know yourself, your advisor, and your investments
- A new videos page
- The Fraudster Fighter Toolkit and Investor Toolkit
- Our Community Calendar of events and seminars
Take a Look at Investment Fees
In October, we kicked off the Take a Look at Investment Fees campaign. You’ll continue to see BCSC InvestRight talk about investment fees and charges in 2017.
If you haven’t already, check out the Take a Look quiz, fee calculator, and investment fee guide.
Be Fraud Aware: The Two-Minute Musical
In March, we raised awareness of Fraud Prevention Month with Be Fraud Aware: The Two Minute Musical. Advertised as a free giveaway at a downtown Victoria coffee shop, patrons were surprised with a pop-up original musical performance that included the anthem singer for the Vancouver Canucks.
Client Relationship Model 2 Video Series
We started promoting a series of videos about the recent changes to the ways registered investment advisors must report to clients about the costs, performance, and value of their investments. These changes are called the Client Relationship Model 2 (CRM2).
The Investor News Blog
We continued to share all kinds of information with investors through our Investor News blog. Here are a few favourites from this year:
- BC Report Warns of Gap between Investor Attitudes and Behaviours
- CSA Study: Increasing Number of Canadians Reviewing Risk Tolerance
- Financial Literacy Month: Planning 10 Resources
- New Registered Disability Savings Plan Page
- Robo-advising: What Investors Need to Know
You can also read all of our Enforcement Roundup posts for an overview of some of the BCSC’s Enforcement division activities.
